Sandy Pfunder's Photo Album (1975)
Çayıriçi Köyü

Page 3

Three village children starting up side street from the main village road (Spring, 1975)

After Margaret and I visited the village in 1975, we returned to Trabzon.  The next day we planned to fly to Izmir.  When we arrived at the Trabzon airport, we were surprised to be met by a very good friend, Selahattin Karagüzel (on the right), who came to see us off.

One Peace Corps volunteer on a return visit in 1975 (front row) surrounded by old friends.  Hasan Şahin, who was one of our hosts in 1999 and again in 2002, is in the center of the back row (with sunglasses).  The village bekçi, now school bus driver, Ali Yamaç, stands behind him.

In the mid-sixties, lumber trucks like this one bringing logs down from the forests at the edge of the yayla were about the only means of transportation, other than walking.  There usually wasn't room going downhill, but when the trucks returned empty, you could often get a ride. (1975)
