Peace Corps volunteer Sandy Pfunder balanced
precariously, attempting to shovel snow from the roof of his house. Fikriye
Hanım, the wife of his landlord's son, sensibly avoids similar efforts

A view past my landlord's ambar and into the mountains
across the river, after two 50-inch snowfalls in January 1967

Ted and Debby Nelson and Bob and Betty Taylor (and Imre
Kusu, who is not in the picture) were visiting our village during the first
of two 50-inch snowfalls in mid-January, 1967. They stayed three days, then
left on foot, abandoning the Peace Corps Carryall, which was eventually
retrieved in April. Site partner Allen Neill is on the far left in this
picture
