Sandy Pfunder's Photo Album
Photos from June  2013 trip to Turkey

Page 1

I went back to my village in Trabzon province.  I also visited the high pasture (yayla) communities where many of the villagers take their dairy cattle for the summer.  This photo shows a typical yayla near Kadırga, in the mountains about 25 miles south of the Black Sea Coast.

My host, Hasan Shahin, and I visited the yayla community of Eskala, where his family has a summer home.  Houses in the photo are typical of the yayla communities.

Two women on the yayla at Eskala.  The woman with the more colorful costume is a Cepni Türk from a village near Salpazarı.  The other woman is the wife of my village host.

Friday is market day in the yayla community of Kadırga.  Virtually all of the manufactured products are made in China.

Handmade local products are also displayed and sold at Kadırga’s weekly market day.

The men gather for Friday prayers in the unique outdoor (“open”) mosque on the Kadırga yayla.
