Collection of our Stories from the Listserv
We discussed what to do with the stories that have been posted on the
listserv. Ideas included the Kennedy Museum with its PC Archives, putting
them on our website, and publishing them. Publication could include a
straight printing of the material, or reducing to 200 pages, perhaps as
coffee table books with pictures and stories on different topics.
We wondered if the true value was in the experience of sharing them on
the listserv, and that publication would not be a good idea. They are about
460 pages. We can get an estimate, and get a book editor to look at it.
Treasurer’s Report
We discussed contributions to the organizations that we support and
decided to send last year’s amounts and reexamine the situation next spring
for a supplemental contribution.
Bylaws
We felt that we should know or have clear reasons for why we want
bylaws. They would be a step in incorporating and becoming a 510(c)(3)
non-profit, and it would allow our members to receive a tax deduction for
their contributions. However, incorporation will not provide any additional
liability protection to the board members, and the preparation of annual tax
reports is too demanding. We concluded that what we have has worked for a
long time, that we operate as a consensus organization, and that we don’t
want to be incorporated. It was voted that we not have bylaws.
Bayram Dinners
The Board decided to give the postcards and bookmarks made from old
directory covers to people who attend the Bayram dinners. The Turkish
ambassador, Peace Corps Director, Director of NPCA, and Bulent Atalay will
be invited to the Washington Bayram dinner.
Next Board Meeting
The next meeting will be at Atilla's on December 8, 2004. The meeting was
adjourned.
