Arkadaslar Board Meeting

In attendance: Sandy Anderson, Pat Fesci, Jean Fromberg, Peggy Hanson, Mike Jewell, Ken Hill, Linda Scheffer, John Wintrol, Dave Weinman, and Susan Bayley

Actions Taken from July 11, 2002 Meeting

Action: Pat will look into the TEGV web site and report back to the board at its 11/21 meeting.

2002 Bayram Dinner:
Action: The 2002 Bayram dinner for the Washington area will be held at Kazan's in McLean, VA on Sunday evening, October 27.
Action: Susan will call Zeynel Uzun at Kazan's to begin arrangements for the event, to feature a doner kebab dinner and include a Turkish rug display and booth held by Zeynel's niece.
Action: Susan will email Serap Rada that Arkadaslar will be holding its event at Kazan's on October 27 and that ATA members are welcome to attend.
Action: Susan will invite the Ambassador and his wife, Cihad Erginay and his spouse (or his successor), and Senator Byrd and his wife.
Action: Linda will invite Larry Montgomery so that he can sing Turkish songs for the event.

Buralarda
Action: Linda will report on the costs of the two newsletters sent out in fiscal year 2002 at the next meeting.

Future Board Meetings
Action: $3,000 will be set aside for a membership directory in 2003.
Action: Linda and Susan will present a draft budget for 2003 at the next meeting.
Action: Susan will invite Mustafa Soykan to speak to the board about his foundation immediately before the next board meeting.
Action: Peggy will ask a representative of Anatolian Artisans to speak with the board immediately before the next board meeting.
Action: Arkadaslar will donate $1,000 to Ashoka, with a cover letter from Susan introducing Ashoka to Arkadaslar and inviting a representative to meet with the board immediately before its next meeting.
Action: Ashoka and its new projects in Turkey will be reported in Buralarda and our web site.

NPCA Project
Action: Susan will report to Lisa Martin that Arkadaslar review of her NPCA project with affiliate groups and embassies in Washington, DC was postponed, for discussion at our next board meeting, but that initial reaction to the project was not positive.
