The village mayor, his wife, two daughters, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren, on a foggy morning in June, 1999.

1999:  Fikriye Karagüzel on the yayla at Eskala.  Fikriye was the
 daughter-in-law of my village landlord during the mid-1960s.
 

1999:  While visiting the village, we also stayed with Hasan Şahin and his family.  Here his daughter inspects wild roses growing alongside the family's fields.

Note:  We used that as our Christmas card in 1999.  The picture caption on the card just said something like The Pfunders in Turkey, 1999.  Some months later, I ran into an old friend whom I don't see very often, but he's on our Christmas card list.  "I have to tell you," he said, "how relieved I am to see that you're not really as old as you appeared in your Christmas card picture."




1999:  The muhtar's grandson checks on the barn with the dairy cows early one morning.
