"The Treasure Below:  Excavating at the Ancient Port of Constantinople." 
Smithsonian Associates and the American Friends of Turkey are co-sponsoring a lecture on Thursday March 15, 2012 (at 6:45 pm in the Ripley Center at the Smithsonian) by Ufuk Kocabas, director of Istanbul University's Yenikapi Shipwrecks Project.  The lecture is entitled "The Treasure Below:  Excavating at the Ancient Port of Constantinople."  Cost is $20, or $15 for Smithsonian Resident Members, or $13 for Senior Members.  More information in the January issue of Smithsonian Associate magazine, or at this link:

Tour to Turkey:

June 4-13, 2012
Anatolian Artisans is pleased to announce its 2012 cultural tour --  "Turkish Culture, Crafts and Cuisine of Istanbul and Bursa".  The tour begins in Istanbul on the evening of June 4 and includes five days of touring in Istanbul, one day in Iznik, and three days in Bursa, before returning to Istanbul on June 13.  Highlights of the tour include visits to many historic sites in these three cities, plus visits to the studios and workshops of nearly a dozen Turkish artisans and artists.  In addition, we will sample some of the best of Ottoman and Turkish cuisine.

Registration deadline is February 15.  Full payment is due by March 15.  There is a registration form in the brochure.
