Mike said that he felt the presidency should be passed around; however he’s
willing to serve one more year since it’s the year that the T-1s will have
their 50th reunion in Turkey. Mike was elected president for
the coming year.
We plan to publish at the end of January. Topics will include:
2012 Reunion in Turkey, organized by the T-1s
Trip sponsored by Anatolian Artisans
Trip sponsored by the American Friends of Turkey (AFOT)
T-15s reunion in DC this spring
The editors are looking for background articles
50th Reunion in Turkey
The T-1s have planned the trip. It will occur in early September with a
visit to the American Ambassador’s residence on September 6th,
exactly 50 years to the day that the T-1s arrived. They will visit
Hacettepe and give our annual Arkadaşlar contribution to the C. Erik Olson
Memorial Fund. Erik was a T-1 volunteer.
George Park (T-1) is also working on the trip. T-1s
are being given first preference for seats on the trip until February 1st.
Seats must be reserved with a $200 deposit.
For an 8-day trip plus 2 days in Ankara, they will
visit Ankara, Hittite sites, Black Sea Coast, i.e., Amasya, Sivas, Divrigi,
Unye, Sinop, Amasra, and Safranbolu, The maximum number of people is 20,
and they are to ride in two vans. Vans are necessary rather than buses
because of narrow roads. For $150/day, participants will receive all their
food, transportation, hotels and driver. There is a good direct flight to
Istanbul from Dulles in Washington, DC, on Turk Hava Yollari (THY).
Cumhuriyet Bayram Dinners
Our Bayram dinners this fall can celebrate all the more because it is our 50th
anniversary in Turkey.
This is an opportunity to visit various honey-making operations in
Eastern Turkey to compare their flavor difference, and contribute to the
local tourism. Participants will be hiking and staying an a yurt. They
may be at an elevation as high as 9,000 feet and walk 6-10 miles a day. It
could be made into a trip of tribute to Rick Ash. Perhaps we could write a
story about Rick. We could put it in Buralarda.
April/May we want to meet to decide on our
contributions for the year, then
June/July to plan the trip and Cumhuriyet Bayram
September to finalize Bayram dinner plans
Next Meeting: The next meeting is May 1st,
