Treasurer’s
Report
The cash on
hand as of January 14 is $10,357.17. Approximately $6,000 will be used this
year to print the directories.
We had 358 members pay dues last year. The report does not include dues
being paid for 2009.
The bayram dinner was attended by 88 people. It included T-1s. Next year
will be the 40th anniversary year for the T-2s and T-4s. The
following year may overwhelm the event when the T-8s, T-9s, T-10s and T-12s
will have their anniversary.

Arkadaslar
Process for Contributing to Projects in Turkey
[We had
received a request last summer to contribute towards women’s groups in
Turkey. A lot of discussion ensued on the listserv, and Allen Gall
volunteered to collect the comments and present his findings to the board.]
Following his presentation, partially by email earlier and a very thorough
discussion, the vote was unanimous to continue as we have in the past, but
to increase the publicity. This means that we will continue to consider
other projects as they are proposed.
It was suggested that we have an application process. This will be placed
on the agenda for the next meeting.
Buralarda
The new
editors, Steve and Peggy, have a number of ideas.
Expect the
next issue at the end of the month.
Directory
The directory
will cost about $6000, that’s around $12 each. We set aside $2000 each year
to amortize the cost over three years.
A lot of
people change their addresses, and a new directory is warranted. One member
suggested that the directory be provided online. It was noted, however,
that having the information in electronic format destroys our ability to
protect people’s information, and older people are less likely to use an
electronic version.
Peace Corps
Connected, like a FaceBook
Sandy began
investigating FaceBook for Arkadaslar as a way for us to begin to know each
other now, not always through our training groups. In the meantime, NPCA
announced that it is launching “Peace Corps Connected” which is a social
network (like FaceBook) using a Ning online platform. She will set up a
group for Arkadaslar with NPCA.
Dave’s 75th
Dave Weinman
will be 75 soon, and we cheered him on. He said, “Of all my jobs, I most
appreciated the Peace Corps and working on poverty. This table represents
people coming together from different experiences and hopefully future
generations will come behind.”
Linda
Scheffer’s
Retirement
Linda will
retire at the end of the month. “Emekli olduğunuzu tebrik ederiz.”
