Cumhurriyet Bayram Dinners  2013

MADISON, WISCONSIN

We met for hors d'oeuvres and conversation at Russ and Liz Whitesel's house feasting on spinach börek, yaprak dolmas, mercimekli köfte, dates,0ooooop and humus with pide.  From there we went to Oliva, a restaurant owned by a Turkish family, for a delicious authentic dinner.  Our waiter was the college-student son of the owner whose Turkish was less advanced than our rusty Turkish---but he was planning to go to Turkey for an extended visit after his graduation. 

It was a wonderful evening.
