On October 27th, Seattle area volunteers got together at
the home of Ruth and Dale Hultengren for the eighth consecutive year. It’s
getting to be a custom. It was a “small” group of twenty-four – down a bit
from last year’s record-setting forty. Attending were Judith Cederblom
(T-12), Hannah Eulenberg (T-15), Tom Snoeberger, Marilee Fuller (T-6),
Michael Eulenberg (T-15), Julia Eulenberg, Dana Marmion (T-15), Kent
Breidenstein, Diane Pearce (T-9), Chris Smith (T-4), Ann Smith, Marilyn
Stark (T-4), Ann Bozer (T-16), James Stark, John Thompson (T-8), Babette
Thompson, George Wright (T-9), Ali San (language instructor at Occidental
1969) , Yasemin San, Selim Kuru (University of Washington, professor of
Ottoman), Ruth Hultengren, Dale Hultengren (T-15), David Hultengren (Ruth’s
and Dale’s youngest son and his fiancé) Rachel Malinen. Although more is
always merrier, this year’s gathering was particularly nice because one
actually had an opportunity to visit with everyone else. And food? Oh yes,
there was plenty!
What restaurant can can compete with the variety – not to mention
tastiness – of our menu? Patlıcan salatası,
taboulı, carrots and rice,
yaprak
dolması, poğaca, grilled
liver, Arabian squash, Adana kebab, cacık, mercimek çorbası, Şam fistığı, rice wıth
eggplant sauce, müceddere, mücver and
İmam
bayıldı. And, of course, pide.
İçecekler: şarap,
raki, bira, meyva suyu… Many a tale and many a laugh were later followed
with
çay.
And, as always, everyone in the picture is smiling.
Dale Hultengren (T-15)
