Santa Yayla

Page 8

A few of the ruined houses in Santa have been repaired and are used by local Turkish villagers as summer yayla homes.

A view of another district (mahalle) in the village of Santa with a roofless church.

Abandoned Pontic Greek village of Santa, which dates from the 17th century and at one time had over a thousand houses.  Ruins of one of the village's eight churches are visible in this picture.  The village is located in a remote valley southeast of Trabzon and was abandoned after the Population Exchange in 1923.
